Vita brevis (Life is short), ars longa (& art long)

how much of this is temporary – the life of the composer? the piece of paper? the rose? the musical interpretation? the concept of beauty in multiple forms?

“The aphorism quotes the first two lines of the Aphorismi by the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates.”     Wikipedia

Vita brevis,
ars longa,
occasio praeceps,
experimentum periculosum,
iudicium difficile.

Life is short,
and art long,
opportunity fleeting,
experimentations perilous,
and judgment difficult.

a peek at historic change

chicago’s near north architecture

What do these three photos have in common?

They’re all the same building, and I used to pass it on my way to a Trader Joe’s in Chicago, just north of the downtown Loop.

Click the link to learn more about this Chicago Landmark.

It used to be a huge auditorium and excellent recording studio for The Chicago Symphony and Disney.

Loaded this up on the weekend, and then forgot to post… oops!

a few glowing red leaves from last autumn

an autumn pumpkin and some candles ~ setting the stage for Hallowe’en

there’s more than one way to light up an autumn sky ~ this is from a corner just south of the chicago main library at state & congress avenues

scales and relationships

Thanks to lovely Chicago for these photos. Its’ streets are full of lovely buildings and art just begging to be photographed.

But first, here’s one that’s not from Chicago. Know what it is? Or do you need to see it in relation to something else. . .

Read on!

Is it a room divider?  Wall art?

This was on South Dearborn – check out the statue versus the size of the reflected skyscrapers and the photographer.  Relativity!

The Bard, decorated for New Year’s, up in Lincoln Park ~ in reality, not larger than the buildings across the street. 😉

Figured out what the top photo is yet?  If not, the last photo should help.

Atop a lot…

… in downtown Chicago sits the 10-storey main library. Otherwise known as the Harold Washington Library and named for a former mayor of the city.

Atop the library are interesting side and corner decorations.

This was taken from a sixth floor window across the street. Hope you enjoy!

the main library in chicago encompasses an entire block

this is a close-up of the southwest corner of the library
